FAQs
Who will my child be grouped with?
Campers are grouped together based on the grade the campers will be entering in the new school year. We generally have a Pre-K/K group, 1st-2nd grade group, 3rd-4th grade group, 5th-6th grade group, and a 7th-8th grade group. Sometimes we combine age groups together depending on enrollment. We always do our best to put friends together in the same group.
What should my child bring to camp?
Please make sure you child is dressed comfortably for camp and wears closed-toe athletic shoes. On swim days, please bring a bag with a towel, swimsuit, sunscreen, and an extra pair of athletic clothes. Please come to camp with sunscreen on. We do re-apply sunscreen throughout the camp day. Please also pack your child a nutritious lunch, a snack if they choose to eat a snack during break time, and a water bottle (labeled with your child's name on it).
How does the Sign-in and Sign-out process work each day for my child?
Parent(s) must accompany their child to the sign-in table each morning. A coach will make sure they are signed in and will direct them to a location to put their belongings.
At the end of the day, parents or guardians must sign their child out with their camp counselor. Coaches will have a sign-out sheet that parents will initial. Other than the listed parents/caretakers on the registration form, anyone not listed will not be allowed to sign out your child from Valley Sports Camp. Please be sure to include all names of people who will be picking up your child when you register them for camp (nanny, friends, grandparents, etc.). If there is a need for your child to be released to someone not listed on the registration, please notify the Staff either by email or call Kim at 510-207-8943.
Permission slips can be submitted for children who ride a bicycle or walk to/from camp. Please notify the Staff when you register or on Monday morning at registration.
How does swimming time work?
Both pools have certified life guards on duty the entire time. Our camp coaches also watch or swim with their campers at the pool. Campers are required to pass a swim test before they are allowed to swim in the deep end. The swim test includes swimming across the pool without putting their feet down and demonstrating proficient ability to float/swim safely. Taking the swim test is optional, and all campers will have an opportunity to swim in the shallow end of the pool where they can stand. Please make sure to accurately record your child's swimming abilities on the sign-up form. Sunscreen is always applied to campers prior to swimming - we appreciate it if you send your child with sunscreen that is easily accessible in their backpacks. Thank you!
Do you have a Lost & Found?
Lost and found items are collected everyday. The most collected items are water bottles, t-shirts, and sweatshirts. Please label all of your items before coming to camp. We will make the Lost and Found available at the start and end of camp.
Are you a nut-free camp?
Some campers have severe life-threatening allergies to nut products, and for their safety, we are a nut free camp. We appreciate your support and ask that snacks and lunches be nut free. Please be especially mindful with trail mix, granola bars, and peanut butter & jelly sandwiches. Also, just like at school, we have a no sharing food policy.
